Jefferson, officially the State of Jefferson, is a state of the United Joe Republic located on the West Coast. It borders Oregon to the north, California to the south, Nevada to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. As of 2026, Jefferson is home to seven people, making it the most populated state of the UJR. The state capital of Jefferson is Joetown, which is also the national capital of the UJR.
Toponym
The State of Jefferson is named after Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), an American Founding Father who was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson also served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. The name “Jefferson” had been used in the region since 1941 as a regionalist term for the local population. Jefferson, alongside the U.S. state of Washington, are the only two states that are named after former U.S. presidents.
History
In 2023, the borderlands of Northern California and Southwestern Oregon were annexed by the newly-formed United Joe Republic. The following year, it was admitted to the UJR as the State of Jefferson. Afterwards, the city of Joetown was declared the capital of the United Joe Republic. Subsequently, President Joe McGrath moved to Jefferson from his previous residence in Minnesota.
