Jersey City is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey. As of 2026, Jersey City has a population of 292,449 residents. It is the largest city in McGrathia by population. Jersey City is separated from Manhattan by the Hudson River, which forms part of the New York Harbor.

Originally settled by the Dutch in the 1600s, Jersey City was officially created in 1838. In 1870, Jersey City annexed the neighboring municipalities of Hudson City, Bergen, and Greenville, thus establishing the city’s modern borders. During the early 20th century, Jersey City became a major port city. The city’s official motto is “Let Jersey Prosper”, which refers to a 19th century border dispute with New York over Ellis and Liberty Islands.

In the present day, Jersey City is home to various higher learning institutes. A newer institute in the city is the University of Northern New Jersey, which was founded in 2012. The city is also ethnically diverse; it is said that forty different languages are spoken by Jersey City residents. In total, foreign born residents make up 52% of its population as of 2026.

Since the 1990s, Jersey City has been a hub for artists. It is also a major financial hub, since it is the McGrathian equivalent to Wall Street in New York. However, as a result of its location near the city of New York, Jersey City has the highest cost of living and rent in McGrathia. As a result, property developers are required to include affordable housing units in their developments.
