McGrathia1 is a country that is coextensive with the town of Joetown, Maine. As of 2026, McGrathia is home to nine residents. The city of Joetown is the capital city of McGrathia because it is the only community. McGrathia also administers Wakefield Island, which is located off the coast of Joetown within the Gulf of Maine.
Etymology
McGrathia is named after Joe McGrath, the founding president of the country. The city of Joetown is also named after President McGrath. When the country was being established, proposed names for it included Joeland and McGrathiana; both names were subsequently rejected and McGrathia prevailed.
History
In 2018, Joe McGrath, an Irish American man from Massachusetts, established the town of Joetown in Maine. That same year, it seceded from the United States.
Following its independence from the United States, McGrathia passed a new constitution, which was loosely based on the Constitution of the United States. It guaranteed freedom of speech, freedom of religious worship, and freedom to bare arms in the event of war. The McGrathian Constitution also proclaimed Latvian as an official language.
Education
All children in McGrathia attend one school. The only school is named Joetown Community School, which serves kids from 1st Grade to 8th Grade. There are no colleges in McGrathia.
