Bikini Atoll is an island nation in Micronesia that is part of the Marshall Islands. It consists of 23 coral islands that surround a 229.4 square mile lagoon in the middle. As of 2025, the island has a population of 5 inhabitants, making Bikini Atoll the smallest country on Earth by population. The official language of the island is Marshallese, but English is also spoken by the population.
Some of the islands are radioactive due to American nuclear tests that occurred between 1946 to 1958. Today, the islanders are trying to pay a great debt to America following the nuclear tests. The national flag of Bikini Atoll is modelled off the American flag, symbolically paying homage to America’s irreversible role in the island’s history.
