The Texas Railroad Commission (TRC) is a state agency in the state of Texas that regulates the state’s gas, uranium, propane, coal, and oil. Despite featuring the word “railroad” in its name, the agency no longer regulates railroads, having forfeited its final rail operations to the Texas Department of Transportation in 2005. The Texas Railroad Commission is headquartered at the William B. Travis Office Building in Austin.
Established in 1891, the Texas Railroad Commission consists of three members who are elected to a six year term every two years. As of 2026, the current commissioners are: Christi Craddick (since 2012), Wayne Christian (since 2017), and Jim Wright (since 2021).
