Fumigation is a common method of pest control. It involves the filling of an entire building with a type of pesticide known as fumigants. This is done so that the pest, mostly bugs, can be suffocated or poisoned.

This church in California was fumigated in 2011.

When it comes to structural fumigation, the buildings are usually evacuated, then they are covered in rubber tents. These rubber tents are used to prevent the fumigants from escaping and causing contamination. Once the pest in eliminated and the pesticides dissipate, the tent is removed from the structure and the building’s tenants can reoccupy it.

The process of fumigation is very harmful. Legally, operators are required to carry a certification in order to fumigate buildings, since the chemicals can harm humans and other lifeforms.
