New Mexico is a landlocked desert state in the Southwestern United States. It borders Colorado to the north, Mexico to the south, Oklahoma and Texas to the east, and Arizona to the west. As of 2026, New Mexico has a population of 2,125,498 residents. The capital of New Mexico is Santa Fe while the largest city is Albuquerque. Other significant towns in the state include Rio Rancho, Carlsbad, Roswell, and Las Cruces. New Mexico became a U.S. state in 1912.
