State Farm Insurance is an American mutual company headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois. It is the largest provider of property, auto, and casualty insurance in the United States of America.

History

State Farm was founded in 1922 by George Mecherle, a retired farmer from Illinois.

In 1953, State Farm introduced a logo consisting of three red ovals. Each oval said the words “auto, life, and fire”, representing the three types of insurance that State Farm sold at the time. This logo was simplified in 2012.

In 2009, State Farm announced that it would no longer sell insurance in the state of Florida. This decision was reversed in 2010 due to backlash from its customers in Florida.

In 2011, State Farm’s ad campaign “State of….” premiered nationwide. The most noteworthy commercial in this campaign was “State of Unrest”, which shows a man waking up a 3:00 in the morning talking to a State Farm agent named Jake. This commercial featured a man named Jake Stone as the agent in this commercial. Stone himself was an actual employee of State Farm from Illinois. The “State of Unrest” commercial was rebooted in 2019, with Kevin Miles, an African-American actor from Chicago, taking over the role of Jake from State Farm.
