Arizona is a U.S. state in the Southwestern portion of the country. It borders Utah to the north, Mexico to the south, New Mexico to the east, California to the west, and Nevada to the northwest. As of the U.S. census of 2020, Arizona has a population of 7,623,818 permanent residents. The capital of Arizona is Phoenix, which is also its largest city. Other major cities in Arizona include Flagstaff, Yuma, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Tucson. Arizona joined the Union on February 14, 1912, becoming the 48th state. It was also the last state in the contiguous part of the United States to achieve statehood.
