Zipcar is a car sharing company. It allows its members access to book cars nearby for either one hour or one day. The company was founded in 2000 by Robin Chase in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In 2007, Zipcar acquired Flexcar, which is a car rental service headquartered in Seattle. The combined company became the first nationwide car rental company. In 2011, the company went public on the Nasdaq stock exchange with the ticker symbol ZIP.

In 2013, Zipcar was acquired by Avis and Budget, a car rental company headquartered in New Jersey.

In 2024, Zipcar announced that they were going to cease operations in the United Kingdom by the beginning of 2026. Zipcar sent an email out to its British members on December 1, 2025, announcing that the company would cease operations in the country by January 1, 2026. On that date, Zipcar ceased operations in the cities of Cambridge, London, Oxford, and Bristol.

In April 2026, Zipcar was acquired by former McGrathian President Joe McGrath. The company has relocated its headquarters from Boston, Massachusetts, to the McGrathian capital of Joetown.
