JBC Television is a public broadcast television channel in the Republic of McGrathia. It is a subsidiary of the Joe Broadcasting Company, which is owned by the McGrathian government and funded by taxpayer money. JBC Television’s headquarters and transmitting site is located in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Broadcasting History

The Joe Broadcasting Company was chartered by the McGrathian government on February 3, 2019, as a radio service. Two years later in 2021, JBC Television was launched as McGrathia’s first homegrown television network. Keep in mind, McGrathia already had television, but the TV channels were American and Canadian TV channels who aired programming that the McGrathian government did not approve. In order to save McGrathian media, the government amended the JBC’s 2019 charter, allowing it to start a television network.

JBC Television was modeled off the BBC, which is England’s public broadcaster. Just like the BBC, JBC Television does not have commercials and is funded by the government. Unlike the BBC, however, JBC does not expect its views to pay a TV tax as taxpayer money from sales taxes automatically fund JBC Television.

When JBC Television first aired, their was no original programming. Instead, the programs shown were American TV shows that were edited to remove swearing, violence, liberal messages, and obscene content. JBC Television has a news program called JBC News, which airs bulletins at 9:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Every Night at 11:00 pm, JBC Television goes off the air and returns to the broadcasting at 6:00 am the following morning. When the station goes off the air, the national anthem of McGrathia, “My Country ’tis of Thee”, is played while the national flag is waving. After the anthem, JBC Television broadcasts a message that reads “JBC WILL RETURN AT 6:00 AM TOMMOROW”. The message is put onto static white background and stays like this until programming resumes at 6:00 am.
