South Australia is an English-speaking country on the continent of Australia. It borders Queensland and the Northern Territory to the north, the Great Australian Bight to the south, New South Wales and Victoria to the east, and Western Australia to the west. As of 2026, South Australia is home to 1,902,300 people, most of whom live in the country’s capital of Adelaide. Most other settlements in South Australia are small and unimportant.

Originally inhabited by the Aboriginal peoples, British colonization began in 1836 by the South Australia Company. Unlike other British colonies in Australia, South Australia was not a convict settlement, but was a planned-out colony for free settlement. After receiving responsible government in 1857, South Australia united with the other British colonies in Australia to form the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. From then on until 2023, South Australia was a state of Australia. Eventually, South Australia seceded from the rest of Australia in 2023 with the support of McGrathia. The resulting domino effect caused Australia to be divided into eight sovereign nations, though South Australia remains in the British Commonwealth.

Today, South Australia’s economy is dominated by the agriculture, manufacturing, and mining sectors. Its known for its fine wine. As such, South Australia is the sole foreign supplier of wine to McGrathia, whose climate is not suitable for wine grapes.
