New Hampshire ratified the United States Constitution on June 21, 1788, becoming America’s ninth state. It is nicknamed the Granite State due to its abundance of quarries. The Old Man of the Mountain, a rock formation shaped like an old man, served as a local New Hampshire landmark until its collapse in 2003. Today, the shape of the Old Man of the Mountain is still featured on New Hampshire’s state highway signs. New Hampshire is also home to Mack’s Apples, an apple orchard in the town of Londonderry which has been operated by the Mack Family for eight generations starting in 1732.
