Tyler Moses Chang (born January 8, 2019) is a seven-year-old Chinese-McGrathian boy with ADHD and a lisp on the letter R.

Early Childhood

Tyler Chang was born on January 8, 2019, in Los Angeles, California. He is the only child of Wu Cheung Chang and Agatha Lee Ming. His biological father was an illegal immigrant from Taiwan while his biological mother was the descendent of 19th century Cantonese immigrants to California. Tyler himself cannot speak the Chinese language, nor can he read the Chinese alphabet.

According to Tyler, he has been wearing glasses since he was four years old. If true, this means that he would’ve gotten glasses in 2023.

In 2024, at the age of five, Tyler was put up for adoption after his father was deported to Afghanistan by then-President Bobby Jindal while his mother was arrested for aiding in his escape from the authorities. After two weeks, Tyler was adopted by Edward and Lynda Lynch, a childless white couple from Dover, Delaware. Ever since then, he has resided in the state of Delaware.

Personal Life

Education

Tyler Chang currently attends a private school in Dover, Delaware. The school he attends requires him to wear a school uniform, which consists of a black cardigan, white shirt, green tie, black trousers, and black dress shoes. Tyler is the school’s only special-ed student due to his ADHD.

Community Involvement

Tyler Chang is heavily involved in his community. He often volunteers at the local community center to help out in community events within the city of Dover.

Speech Pattern

Tyler has a lisp on the letter R. If the letter R is proceeded by a vowel, he can say it. However, words that begin with R are hard for him to say. In an interview with National Public Radio (NPR), Tyler Chang has said the following quote:

As a seven-year-old with ADHD, I get twouble (trouble) in school for my childish speech pattern. I am also bullied by other childwen (children) for how I talk. They also bully me for my Chinese hewitage (heritage), which I cant contwol (control).

This NPR interview made Tyler Chang into a national celebrity among liberalswithin McGrathia. It also started a political debate between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats supported Tyler Chang while Republicans generally dislike him. As of 2026, the issue involivng Tyler Chang is still an ongoing debate.
