Nevada is a landlocked desert state of the United States of America. It borders Oregon and Idaho to the north, California to the west, Utah to the east, and Arizona to the southeast. Nevada is home to a population of 3232,188 residents as of 2026. The capital of Nevada is Carson City while its largest and most famous city is Las Vegas. Other significant towns in Nevada include Reno, Henderson, and Winnemucca. Nevada was admitted to the Union in 1864, which was during the American Civil War. This state, alongside West Virginia, are the only two states to have been admitted during the Civil War.

Due to the large amount of silver deposits in the state, Nevada is officially nicknamed the Silver State. The state also has very libertarian laws. It is one of the two states where gambling is legal. It also has the most lenient divorce and marriage laws in the entire United States. This is the sole reason why Las Vegas is the state’s biggest city despite its location in the dry Mojave Desert.
