A presidential election was held in the United States of America on November 5, 2024. The Republican candidate, Michael McGrath, defeated the Democratic Party’s candidate, Dylan Zurabishvilli.
Incumbent Republican president Richard Rakoto was ineligible to for re-election to a third term due to term limits imposed by the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution. Michael McGrath, a Congressboy from Rhode Island’s 2nd congressional district, secured the nomination without any challengers. He became the first child to secure the presidential nomination, as well as the first person from Rhode Island to be a major party nominee.
Dylan Zurabishvilli, a ten-year-old activist from California, was chosen as the Democratic nominee. He ran under a left-wing populist platform, promoting the Green New Deal, Universal Healthcare, and the abolition of capitalism. He became the first U.S. presidential candidate whose ancestry is from the Eastern European country of Georgia.
On election night, Michael McGrath won the election with 299 electoral votes. He won the key swing states of Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Connecticut. Michael also became the first Republican to carry Washington D.C. in a presidential election since the federal district gained voting rights in 1964. On the other hand, Dylan won the swing states of Georgia, Kentucky, Arizona, and Maryland. Dylan became the first Democrat to carry Utah (since 1964) and Louisiana (since 1996). Overall, Dylan Zurabishvilli won 239 electoral votes.
