The Sports Reform Act of 2025 is Act of the McGrathian Congress that reformed professional sports in the United Joe States of McGrathia. The law notably banned association football (soccer) and renamed American football to freedom football. Congress also withdrew McGrathia from FIFA and made it so that the country can never participate in any future World Cup matches.
Background
When the United States was selected to host the 2026 World Cup in 2018, it was agreed that Mexico, Canada, and the newly-formed country of McGrathia, would co-host the event. Joetown, the capital of McGrathia, was one of the 17 cities that were hosting various matches for the World Cup.
By 2025, McGrathia had built two stadiums; Tums Stadium in Joetown, and Autism Stadium in an isolated desert in Texas. In edition to soccer, the aforementioned stadiums were to also be used for American football following the World Cup. This was made possible after the McGrathian government acquired the New England Patriots and Houston Texans from the National Football League (NFL), the largest American football league in the United States.
On March 26, 2025, McGrathian president Joe McGrath found out that FIFA was going to temporarily rebrand Tums Stadium into Joetown Stadium due to FIFA not allowing sponsorships on their stadiums. In edition, Joe considered the “No Hands in Soccer Rule” to be unfair, claiming that “Soccer not allowing players to use their hands while playing is rigged and unethical. We as humans have gone more far than that”.
The bill becomes a law
On March 29, 2025, Wisconsin congressboy Michael McGrath, under pressure from his father, introduced a bill into the McGrathian Congress, focused on reforming sports in McGrathia. The bill was unanimously passed by congress 4-0. As with all bills that are passed through Congress, it came to President Joe’s desk on March 31st. Joe signed the bill into law and it went into effect the following day.
Law Day One
When the law came into effect at noon on April 1, 2025, all soccer games nationwide were shutdown by the military, soccer balls were destroyed by the government, and the McGrathian national men’s soccer team was then deported to Afghanistan after being charged with high treason.
