History
In July 2018, Joe McGrath, a 20-year-old young man from Massachusetts, settled a previously uninhabited strip of coastline in Maine. The following month, Charles Wu, a Chinese-American entrepreneur, settled in the same area.
After the state of Maine found out about the illegal settlement, it attempted to evict both McGrath and Wu from the area. In response, the two-month-old settlement declared independence from Maine, forming the Republic of Joetown. After the U.S. government recognized Joetown, Maine’s claims on the region were nullified.
Following the conflict with Maine, Joe McGrath became the first president of Joetown. The population would grow when Wu Chang, the four-year-old son of Charles Wu, immigrated to Joetown in 2022. That same year, President McGrath adopted Sergey Putin, a five-year-old boy from Russia, into his family.

The elections are held in the year following the census that determines the electorate.
Child Voting Rights
In 2023, Joetown became the first country ever to allow children to vote. The reason why children can vote in Joetown is because only 2 adults live in Joetown; Joe McGrath and Charles Wu. Since Joe McGrath is serving as president, he cannot vote as the incumbent president can’t vote for himself in elections. This meant that Joe would only get one vote from Wu.
The first election that children could vote in was the 2024 Election, which Joe won with 100% of the vote.
