In the 2024 American Presidential Election, Jill Stein, an activist and physician from Massachusetts, ran as the nominee of the Green Party. She lost the election to Republican candidate Donald Trump, who used Stein as an opportunity to weaken the campaign of Democrat nominee Kamala Harris.
Stein was the Green Party’ nominee in the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections, losing both elections. In an August 2024 survey, 29% of Arab Americans stated that they will vote for her, though that never happened.
When it came to select a running mate, Stein initially wanted Abdullah Hammoud, the mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, as her VP pick. However, since Hammoud was too young to constitutionally serve as Vice President, the Green Party instead picked Butch Ware, an Islamic historian from California, to be Stein’s running mate.
