The Reverend Marion Gordon Robertson (March 22, 1930 – June 8, 2023) was an American televangelist, political commentator, and media mogul. He is known for The 700 Club, a Christian TV news program that he hosted from 1966 until his retirement in 2021. Robertson also ran president in 1988, but lost the Republican nomination to vice president George H. W. Bush.

Early Life

Marion Gordon Robertson was born on March 22, 1930, in Lexington, Virginia. His father, Absalom Robertson, later served in the US Senate. He was nicknamed “Pat” as a child by his six-year-old brother Willis. In later years, Robertson would use his childhood name rather than his first name “Marion”.

In 1948, Robertson was drafted and forced to join the United States Marine Corps. He would go on to serving in the Korean War.

The 700 Club

In 1960, Robertson established the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) as a television network that specializes in Christian media. Its first affiliated station was WYAH-TV, a local Virginia Beach television station that broadcasted on channel 27.

In 1966, CBN launched its flagship program The 700 Club, which was hosted by Robertson himself. Robertson hosted the show for the next 55 years until 2021, with the exception of 1987 to 1988, when he retired from the show to run for president. Today, the show is currently hosted by Gordon Robertson, who is Pat Robertson’s son.

Eviction from McGrathia

When the United Joe States of McGrathia were established in 2018, Robertson was among the 8 million people who were evicted from Joe’s Virginia. Robertson would spend his remaining days in North Carolina.

Illness and Death

Pat Robertson died at the age of 93, on June 8, 2023, in Kittyhawk, North Carolina. After his death, Robertson’s body was taken back to McGrathia and cremated. His ashes were then dump into the Potomac River. McGrathia also celebrated his death due to him being universally hated by the McGrathian people.
