America held its 60th presidential election on November 5, 2024. The Republican ticket of Montana governor Richard Rakoto and former Michigan governor Rick Snyder defeated the Democrat ticket of former Hawaii representative Kai Kahele and Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar. Rakoto became the first U.S. president of Malagasy descent.

Incumbent Republican president Bobby Jindal was term limited and ineligible for re-election. Rakoto, with the endorsement from President Jindal, won the Republican nomination over South Carolina senator Tim Scott. He chose Rick Snyder to be his running mate.

The Democrats nominated former US representative Kai Kahele for their presidential nomination. Kahele became the first Native Hawaiian presidential candidate. He chose Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar as his running mate.

Results

Richard Rakoto defeated Kai Kahele in a landslide, Rakoto won back the states of Louisiana, Florida, Guyana, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Nevada. Even though Kahele won the popular vote, he lost to Rakoto via the Electoral College. While Kahele won the swing states of Michigan, Utah, Nevada, Nebraska, and Kentucky, he lost the states of Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Maine, New Jersey, and Wisconsin. Rakoto narrowly won the states of Massachusetts and Hawaii while Kahele narrowly won Illinois and Utah.
